Anita Marangoly George is the Senior Director of the World Bank Group’s Global Practice on Energy and Extractive Industries. Ms. George is responsible for implementation of the Bank Group’s efforts to help countries expand access to electricity and modern household cooking solutions, as well as to support energy policy and regulatory reform, increase energy efficiency improvement, and expand renewable energy. Contributing to this effort under her leadership is the Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP). Before assuming this position in 2014, Ms. George was Director for Infrastructure and Natural Resources at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She joined the World Bank Group in 1991 as a Young Professional, working first as a financial analyst in Europe and Central Asia. Besides her work with the Bank Group, she has headed Siemens Financial Services in India covering the telecommunications, power and transportation sectors, and has also served in management positions with the Steel Authority of India. Ms. George holds a dual Masters’ degree in Business Administration and Economic Policy from Boston University.
